From the Sun Valley Center for the Arts to Altitude Events Group, LLC
In 2018, the Sun Valley Arts & Crafts Festival celebrated its 50th anniversary. This very significant milestone also marked a time of transition. After much contemplation and deliberation, the Sun Valley Center for the Arts' staff and board of directors decided to transfer management of the Arts & Crafts Festival to a professional event management company in 2019.
“We’ve been wrestling with this question for some time, but The Center’s mission is based on education, and the time is right to focus our energy on those priorities,” said Christine Davis-Jeffers, Executive Director at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts. “It’s hard to let the Festival go, but it’s critical that we direct our resources to educational programs that align with our mission and make the greatest impact.”
Since the conclusion of the 2018 Festival, the Center for The Arts has transitioned management of the event to Altitude Events Group, LLC — a full-service local event production firm that has contracted with The Center on multiple occasions over the past several years, including the 2017 and 2018 Arts & Crafts Festival and the 2016, 2017 and 2018 Wine Auction. Through those experiences, Altitude Events Group’s owner, Art Daves, and his staff have developed a deep appreciation for and understanding of the Center and its events. Under Art’s leadership, the Festival continues to be a visually compelling and organizationally sound event that celebrates creativity and craftsmanship.
“I feel honored to have been part of this beloved community event for the past eight years, and I am excited to have passed the torch to Art Daves, who has extensive knowledge in the event world,” said Stavros. “I know he will use his expertise to grow and evolve this already successful event, and we are eager to see where the next 50 years will take us.”
Although some things about the Arts & Crafts Festival may change, most things will stay the same. First and foremost, the event will remain a juried festival. To ensure quality, the Sun Valley Center for the Arts assisted in jurying the 2019 event in partnership with Altitude Events Group. The timing of the event — the second weekend in August — remains the same, as does the event location at Atkinson Park in Ketchum.

1. Why did the SVCA decide to stop presenting the Festival after 2018?
The mission of the Sun Valley Center for the Arts is based in education. Accordingly, the SVCA has a need to allocate resources more to mission-based specific priorities. As such, they decided to make a shift after the 2018 festival. For more information, please visit the SVCA website or call the SVCA at 208-726-9491.
2. What is Altitude Events Group?
Art Daves is the owner of Altitude Events Group, LLC and started managing the event in 2019. Art has spent the past 25 years working exclusively in event and sports management. He has helped produce a large variety of events ranging from large scale multi-sport projects including the Summer Olympics and Ted Turner's Goodwill Games, to professional cycling stage races to made-for-TV events, to national marketing programs and charitable fundraising events. In early 2015, Art started his own event production consultancy in nearby Hailey, ID called Altitude Events Group, where he first contracted with the Sun Valley Center for the Arts to help produce the annual Wine Auction and Arts & Crafts Festival. The intent of Altitude Events Group is to provide the same high-quality Festival in much the same fashion as the SVCA, while staying true to the Festival's traditions and artistic integrity.
3. Will the schedule be the same going forward?
The Festival will continue to take place during the second weekend in August over three days, Friday through Sunday.
4. What will be the SVCA role in future festivals
To help ensure a smooth transition, the SVCA assisted with the 2019 jury process in conjunction with Altitude Events Group.
5. Will a new Festival mean different art and artists?
Artists will apply to the Festival using the same process SVCA has used since 2006, which is through Zapplication. Art Daves understands that the quality and diversity of The Festival is one of its core strengths. The SVCA consulted on the 2019 Festival in the jury process to ensure that the quality of the show was not compromised, producing the usual mix of new artists and familiar faces.
